In Vogue- Informal Weddings Part 1

By  |

India is a country that undoubtedly loves big fat weddings and taking centre stage at a lavish reception is every girl’s dream. Although parents who believe in giving their children the best they can afford may argue that a wedding is enough reason for a huge celebration, firm believers in the simplicity of a wedding ceremony may beg to differ.

An age old argument against lavish wedding ceremonies is that the pomp and splendour often wipe away the essence and significance of the rituals itself- after all a wedding is about two people who are about to embark on a journey for life together. An interesting trend that appears to be popular is where couples choose to either fund the wedding themselves or prefer to keep the wedding low-key and spend on a dream honeymoon instead.

So if you and your partner would like to keep your wedding ceremony simple, meaningful yet fun, then an informal wedding ceremony is just right for you. Think of it as the very opposite of a big fat Indian wedding. Although Indian weddings are mostly about staying trendy and glitz, an informal wedding is a simple affair with just the right dash of colour and decoration. Unlike other weddings which feature a minimum of 1000 guests, informal weddings usually do not have a guest list of more than 50 people. Most importantly, informal weddings involve the guests as well and the level of camaraderie that is shared is unmatched at other weddings.

Keeping in mind that you get married only once and a wedding day is truly your one day to be in the spotlight, is it worth going in for an informal wedding over a lavish celebration? This is a subjective question indeed and there is no one correct answer to this simply because the kind of wedding ceremony you eventually opt for also has a lot to do with the opinions of loved ones and your idea of a dream wedding. If you would like your wedding to be remembered for a dozen other reasons than for just the hors d’oeuvres and you would like the expenses to amount to a reasonable sum, don’t think twice about going with an informal wedding ceremony. Just being surrounded by the people who genuinely have your best interests at heart and having a good time is reason for a celebration in itself.
