Wedding trends come and go but there are those that are here to stay. Modern Indian weddings are designer affairs, so if you are considering going with an event/wedding planner, here are 4 of the biggest wedding trends you might want to discuss with them.
1. Innovative flower decorations
No wedding is complete without flowers and their importance increases many times over in weddings. The flowers used in an Indian wedding décor might change based on seasonal variations but certain species of flowers like marigolds or ghendas form an integral part of Indian weddings. In 2016, we are expecting to see a slight variation in the floral décor. Where we used to only see orange and red flowers (think roses and marigolds), this year we are expecting to see exotic flowers like Orchids, gerbera, gladiolas etc. Flowers are mandatory in Indian weddings because of their importance described in the sacred scriptures. Modern couples naturally use flowers for adding colours to their wedding palette. It is no wonder that wedding planners and event organizers place so much importance on the types and colours of flowers. Even brides are known to scrutinize their floral arrangements, insisting upon exotic and elaborate floral centrepieces. We are also looking forward to grand floral bouquets this year.

2. Fusion theme
Wedding themes such as the Bollywood inspired wedding are rather popular, but we predict that 2016 weddings will also see some elements from Western/Christian weddings. The very fact that intercultural weddings are increasingly common is all the more a reason for an amalgamation of the East-meets-West theme and décor. Up until now, we have been seeing brighter, bolder and colourful wedding palettes. But 2016 will be the year of the subdued and subtle colour palettes. Pantone also announced Rose Quartz and Serenity as the colours of 2016. So we are expecting more brides to select such pastel hues in their wedding dresses and accessories. To summarise: look forward to bold colours contrasting with softer hues in appealing and enchanting combos.

3. Unforgettable elements
From the time the bride or the groom make their entry (think decorated autorickshaws and helicopters) to a brilliant laser show that will keep the guests enthralled, 2016 weddings will all be about unique and unforgettable elements. Guests can also expect cute wedding favours or may be also asked to step inside photobooths or outside on the laws for drones for cool wedding pictures. Guests can expect to sign/thumbprint guest-books which will later be transformed into interesting wedding keepsakes for the couple to cherish forever. Place cards, innovative photo props and unique wall accents and sconces in the reception venue will surely give a fairy tale feel to the wedding. Ceiling décor is one such element we love-hanging flowers, crystals, parasols and chandeliers may be used to take the décor from pretty to stunning.

4. Entertainment-beyond the traditional band/orchestra
Wedding entertainment is also going all out. An entertainment company/wedding planner can help coordinate elements like lighting, music and specialty talent to give your guests an experience they won’t forget soon. DJs are hotter than ever: they can mix things up so that people will not wish to leave the dance floor. Specialty bands and musicians may also be hired for the Mehendi and cocktail parties. Modern couples of 2016 might take things further and even get psychics, acrobats, magicians and face-painters to keep guests entertained.
