The winter chill is here so we thought of presenting some innovative winter wedding ideas for you to incorporate into your special day.
- Winter wedding colours
Winter wedding colours mainly include red and green at least in the West but we think that these will work very well for Indian weddings as well. Naturally, we aren’t recommending you go overboard with this combo. You could use it in your attire, the mandap colours as well as any umbrellas or canopies if you are having an outdoor wedding.
- Flowers
Go in for red roses or red-orange marigolds that are oh so popular in traditional Indian weddings. To set your winter wedding a class apart-you could opt for seasonal flowers like the curry plant or the Helichrysums (Paper Flowers) as well as Phloxes.
- Invitations
Winter weddings are generally held indoors and you could have so many indoor ceremonies including a ball dance or a cocktail party. You can incorporate these formal events and themes in your wedding invitation cards as well, using the day’s chosen colours of red or green. Alternatively, opt for hot pink, magenta or orange formal wedding invitations.
- Venue
Wedding venues would likely be indoor ones like marriage halls or hotels. But if you are firm about having a garden wedding or an outdoor beach wedding, have the venue coordinators use heaters to keep guests warm. Also make use of ceremony umbrellas and keep serving hot coffee or chocolate along with warm donuts or Indian finger foods.
- Music
Nothing will warm up your wedding guests as much as evergreen Bollywood dance numbers to get everyone moving. Alternatively, you could have classical orchestra playing throughout dinner for an elegant ambience.
- Food and drinks for the Cocktails/Sangeet/ Mehendi Night and the main day
As stated above, include hot drinks like tea, coffee, cocoa etc along with spicy Indian finger foods like samosas, pakoras to keep your guests warm throughout the evening events. How about serving some white hot chocolate to add an element of surprise? North Indian wedding food is ideal for winter weddings or you could opt for your traditional regional fare on the main day.
- Indian wedding sweets
Many seasonal favourites can be included in your wedding mithai boxes. How about dink laddoos which comprise of coconut, dry fruits and traditional dink that is known to help generate warmth in winters? Also you could go in for besan or motichoor ladoos or go the western way by serving truffles, cookies or macaroons.
- Winter honeymoons
If you wish to escape the winter chills, go to Goa, Kerala or other southern honeymoon hot spots. Naturally there are many international sandy destinations as well that can help you flee the blustery weather back home. Alternatively you could embrace the season and go to Kashmir or other colder places. Simply book one of the cosy-romantic log cabins or luxurious resorts which offer skiing, snowboarding and other winter activities for couples.
