Bridal Makeup Tips for a Beach Wedding

By  |

So now that you have finalized your wedding venue, it’s time to think about the kind of look you will wear for your special day. Don’t stress about how your final look will be or whether you’ll look less than spectacular, but what’s important to remember is that you need to list protection of your skin as the top most priority.

Let’s face it- subjecting your delicate skin to hours under the hot sun can leave you with nasty sunburns, irritated skin or even redness. That’s why our first tip which a blushing bride should never ignore is

Sunscreen

Plenty has been said about the benefits of sunscreen and how the harsh UV rays of the sun can leave you with visible signs of sun damage. Why take on additional stress about further sun damage on your special day? Just slather on a minimum 50 SPF sunscreen lotion and let your skin soak up its protective properties for at least 15 – 20 minutes. Don’t forget to use sunscreen on other exposed parts of your body like your arms as well.

Moisturizer

The sea provides a wonderful backdrop for a picture, but its salt content can also drain moisture from the skin leaving you easily dehydrated. Drink plenty of water for at least 5 days before your wedding to keep your body and skin sufficiently hydrated and also on your wedding day as well. A few sips while you’re socializing with your guests will also ensure your skin stays healthy and glowing.

Foundation

Don’t discount the heavy moisture content in the air when deciding your bridal look because that’s where a really good foundation comes in. Go for a matte foundation that matches your skin and texture perfectly so that you look classy and not overdone. If your beach wedding ceremony is during the day, it is best to avoid shimmery powders because it will only reflect the natural sunlight.

Go matte

Choose a matte blusher and concealer so that you don’t have to worry about whether any acne marks, spots, freckles or other minor skin problems show up. Just make sure that the shades go in tandem with your foundation shade as well.

Eyes

If you enjoy eye makeup, now is the best time to play up your eyes a bit. But avoid looking like a banshee with heavy eyeliner or eye shadow. The trick is to find the right balance and make your eyes pop in an attractive natural way. Going with an aqua shade for your eye-shadow may even blend in beautifully with the rest of the natural surroundings. Even false eye-lashes could make your eyes more prominent in photographs.

Lips

Harsh UV rays can affect the colour and texture of your lips too, so protect them by applying a small dose of lip balm with sunscreen before applying lipstick. The best way to get an even look on your lips is to use a small brush while applying the lipstick. This way if you choose to mix two lippy shades, you get an even shade and it looks much neater.

You may need to do at least one touch-up after your beach wedding ceremony is over but remember, the best way to get the most out of your makeup is by blending all the individual components together for that one perfect look. Of course, you may have to experiment a bit to know what works best for you, but  it’ll all be worth it in the end!
