This Is How A Bride From NY Shopped From India For Her Dream Wedding

By  |

Priyanka wanted to look like a princess for her fairy-tale wedding at The Plaza, New York. The wedding was to be a traditional Tamilian affair and the outfits were a non negotiable. She wanted all her wedding outfits from India for which she contacted a wedding stylist from India to help her look like a princess on her fairytale wedding.

The Journey to finding the Perfect Fit

Before coming to India, Priyanka spoke at lengths over video calls with her Wedding Stylist, Meha Bhargava (Founder & CEO, Styl.Inc). The first order of business was creating personalized mood boards to gauge her choices. Upadda and Kanjeevaram sarees for the main events was a pre-requisite, so Meha suggested a trip to the South to buy the real deal. The stylist designed an itinerary for her that included the locations & designers who were a best fit for her. Priyanka’s list had outfits & jewellery for Sangeet, Wedding & Reception for herself and her bridesmaids.

Planning and plotting started a little over 8 months before the wedding. Priyanka and her mom flew to India little over six months before the wedding in the chilly months of December and began their search for the perfect Sangeet and Reception outfit.

Sangeet Outfit

After looking at a lot of designers, Priyanka & her mother liked one of the pieces Meha picked out at Varun Bahl. It was a traditional lehenga, yet it was the color, and vibrant embroidery that set it apart. An unconventional Teal tug at the right strings with everyone. With its hand embroidered floral design & little embellishments to give it that elegant bling, it became the perfect choice.

The Wedding Outfit

Saree

For the sarees, the brief was very specific. It had to be traditional & should meet the cultural specifications. An uppadda and a kanjeevaram. So, Meha flew them to Bangalore. Where they visited very old & reputed stores who’ve been making traditional sarees for decades. They showed Priyanka sarees of their choosing. And she picked out her favorites pretty quickly.

Jewellery

Jewellery was also very carefully selected at some shortlisted stores in Bangalore. Following traditions the bride wore, the traditional Kasan Mala, but the stylist added a intricate petal gold choker with pearl to this. A waist belt was customized to become a Jadanagam or the choti ornament. The Nethichoti was replaced by a maantika that was picked from Purab Paschim and the traditional Valayal was replaced by coordinated bangles were bought off the Lajpat Nagar stores.

The Reception Outfit

Priyanka wanted a statement piece for her Wedding Reception. Something that’ll make her stand out at the party. Elegant, easy to handle & which made her feel like a princess at her ball. Trying on some outfits at Manish Malhotra Store, Meha found the best contender. A white Kashmiri embroidery lehenga with blue sequins in the midst of it. Making her sparkle at every step. The original studded blouse was interchanged to a studded corset style top, She looked like a dream at the store, and we were amazed at how a princess had to come to life when we saw the wedding photos.
