Coorg is known for its hospitality of people and beautiful scenery. Kodagu, also called Coorg, is a district in Karnataka State. It has colourful scenery, wooded slopes, undulating landscape and quaint villages. You can travel to Coorg from Bangalore as it may be the most convenient way due to its connectivity to other cities all over the country. The place is only 100 kms away from Mysore. As such it is best to hire a cab from Mysore.  It is a place to enjoy at your leisure and get the most out of a limited time. This is an ideal place for a 3-4 day honeymoon. Abbey Falls is a beautiful waterfall which provides an excellent backdrop for pictures. It is the most preferred place for a picnic and some fun in the water. The fall make a sudden and dramatic appearance as the water cascades down steps into limpid pools to join the river Cauvery.

Talacauvery Temple is built around the river Cauvery. This place is marked by a tirtha kundike or Brahma kundike (small spring/pond) from where the river emerges as a small perennial spring, but flows underground again to emerge a short distance away. There are 2 temples, a Shiva temple with a rare and ancient Shiva Linga, and another temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

Madikeri Fort was first founded by Mudduraja in the second half of the 17th century. It now houses Ganesha temple, a chapel, a district prison and a small museum.

Raja’s seat derives its name due to the legend that the kings visited this place for an evening stroll and enjoy the scenery around from this spot. You can have a mesmerising experience of the setting sun from here. There is a park and a musical fountain nearby.

The Omkareshwara Temple is a centuries old structure. It is a blend of red-tile roofed Kerala architecture and Islamic -style domes. Legend has it that the king put a pious Brahmin to death unjustly and the spirit of the priest began tormenting the Raja. The Raja built the temple to appease the Brahmin’s spirit.

Dubare has an elephant training camp set up by the Forest Department. It is a different experience to see these majestic animals  bathe in the water or even  eat special treat of ladoos made of ragi and jaggery, each no smaller than a cannon ball.

Bylakuppe is the largest Tibetan settlement in South India. Among the many monasteries, the Great Gompa of Sera Je and Sera Mey and the Namdroling monastery are the most notable. Do not miss the The gold-coated Buddhist statues in the monastery. They are imposing and unique, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Tibetans.

Cauvery Nisargdhama is a breathtakingly beautiful island formed by the Cauvery River in the plains. The way to this breathtaking is equally mesmerising as you have to travel over a hanging bridge. Nisargadhama is filled with lush foliage, thick bamboo groves, teak, and rosewood. The sprawling 64-acre nature resort has a deer park, orchid, and elephant and boat rides.
