Destinations for Honeymoon – Rajasthan (Mewar)

If your theme for honeymoon is lavish and royal, the only place you can you can think of is Rajasthan. It is the land of Maharajas and Maharani’s, of desert and forts, of theva jewellery and lehriya sarees. The best time to visit Rajasthan is from September to March. It gets too warm during the summers. A trip of 5-6 days would normally cost around Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 30,000 per person. The prices vary depending on the number of cities you wish to cover in your trip.

Rajasthan can be broadly divided into two parts Mewar and Marwar. Each is more majestic than the other and each has more places to see than the other. In this post we will cover Mewar followed by Marwar.

Mewar includes Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Udaipur and some parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and Harayana. Following are some places of interest that will make your honeymoon an unforgettable time of your life:

Chittorgarh fort

Udaipur is referred to as the “Venice of the East”. It is also the “Most Romantic City of India”. The Udaipur City Palace is a breathtaking structure standing next to the Pichola lake. This pristine white Palace was originally built by Maharana Uday Singh II. It includes several palaces, museums and gardens within its boundary.

Chittorgarh is the largest fort in India. It was under attack a number of times but fell only thrice to the enemies in its entire history. It has seven gates with the main gate being called ‘Surajpol’ Chittodgard has public living within its boundaries. It is known for being the birth place for Meera Bai. Another historic figure having connection with Chittorgarh is Maharana Pratap. He is the symbol of valour and honour for the Rajput clan. Other place of interest are Vijay Stambha, Meera Mandir and Kirti Stambha.

Mount Abu

Mount Abu is a hill station. It is a one of a kind destination in this region of sand. It is must visit place for honeymooning couples. It has been recently declared an eco-sensitive zone. There are several sightseeing points such as Dilwara temple, Nakki Lake, Achalgarh, Trevor’s Tank, etc.

The Badnore fort is also a must see spot near Bhilwara. This is area is mostly polpulated by the tribes also known as ‘Bhils’. You may also want to see the Kyara ka Balaji. It is a rock formation in the shape of Lord Hanuman’s that appeared on its own and hence holds much importance.

Shanti Sthala, Ramdwara, Shahpura

Ranthambore National Park is also a very interesting place. But going there means a whole separate trip on its own. We recommend you skip it for your honeymoon and have a holiday there sometime later.
