Kriti Dhir is a Delhi based creative Makeup Artist & Hair Stylist having professional training in all kinds of make-up and hair requirements. She is proficient in producing creative and technically correct visual representations. She runs a salon named KritiDS in Delhi and also works as a free lancer.She makes house calls for makeup anywhere in India and abroad for various occasions. She is trained for makeup and hair styling for all kinds of occasions like weddings, receptions and fashion photo-shoots.
Kriti is a woman on a mission. Having started very young in this field, she hopes to open her salons all across the country. Here are a few more details about Kriti:
How did you start in the makeup industry? How long have you been a makeup artist?
My journey began when I got married and went to an institute where I just wanted to learn personal makeup so that I could handle my own beauty routine. It was there that I got inspired; so much so that I finally decided to make this my profession. My father has supported me a lot in this field whereas some relatives thought this field has no future. I was only 18 when I got married and now I am 22. So it’s been nearly 4 years since I have been in this field.
What kind of makeup do you specialize in?
I am professional makeup artist who specializes in bridal, Fashion, portfolio ,character etc makeup.
Have you had formal training in this field?
When I decided to get into this field, I had nothing in my mind as to how to go about it, and what to expect. After my Makeup course from VLCC institute, I decided to freelance. Earlier, my mother used to accompany me everywhere I went for these sessions, but later I started going alone. Thereafter, I gained a great deal of experience in this field. After a while, I decided to take further training from makeover expert Meenakshi Dutt. I have also trained under Bharati Taneja for hair.
What sets you apart from others in this field?
I truly believe that every person has their own special qualities, but what sets me apart is my nature. I am a very friendly person and get along with people very easily specially my brides. I really understand what my brides want and give them something unique; something they have never imagined. I have a habit, (some say it’s good some says it’s bad) that I want everything to be just perfect. I hate the Chalta hain attitude i.e. let it be. I keep in mind that from head to toe, everything my bride is carrying should be perfect: hair, makeup, or draping.
Do you offer trial makeup sessions? How are your bridal packages priced?
I suggest every bride should go for trials as this gives them an idea about the makeup artist’s work. This also helps the brides to discuss their main issues with the makeup artist. My bridal packages are priced keeping in my mind the bride’s requirement. We have bridal packages which includes Bridal makeup and pre bridal services. My bridal packages start from very minimal rate and goes up high. We do keep client’s budget in mind.
How long before the wedding should a bride book you?
I only take 6 brides a day. I would suggest a bride to book their makeup artist at least 2 months before their wedding.
What are the trends for makeup this year? Which cosmetics are popular and in-demand?
It’s the trend to ‘play with eyes’. I love to add colors to the eyes keeping the base subtle. According to me, the eyes should really speak out. It should be the centre of attraction. Brands that I love are YSL, Mac, Lancôme, Makeup Forever and Chanel.
And finally, any advice for brides having a monsoon wedding?
Here are some of the tips that brides having a monsoon wedding should keep in mind.
1-Because of the moisture in weather, your makeup may not last longer. To make it last longer, go in for water based foundations rather than cream based.
2-You need to opt for oil free powders to set your foundation and also your blushers and eye shadows should be in powder form.
3- Also use a waterproof eye liner and mascara.
4-Last but not the least, Carry blotting tissues to touch up your makeup.
