By  |

It’s that time of the year again. Your Facebook and Instagram news-feeds are full of wedding photos of your friends, colleagues and acquaintances. Of course, you are invited as they expect you to be a part of the happy memories of their big day. But, one of the weddings might require you to travel hundreds of miles while another might be clashing with an important event you have to attend.  Before you guilt-trip for not being able to participate in every wedding you are invited to, do read these 9  absolutely valid reasons to skip someone’s wedding without feeling sorry about it.

Guest Guide: 9 Reasons to Skip Someone’s Wedding

1. They are your ex

That makes the biggest and most valid reason to not attend someone’s wedding. If you happen to be the ex of either the groom or the bride, it will be absolutely justified if you plan to skip the wedding. After all, life is not a Bollywood film where the hero and heroine tie the knot in the present of their all-happy-and-smiling exes.

2. It’s too far

Distance can be a huge constraint especially if the travel time would mean asking your boss for leave or missing out on work. Still, if it is a destination wedding, you might want to attend.

3. The bride/groom is almost stranger

You have got a strong reason to skip such a wedding where you hardly know the bride or groom-to-be. Most of us have hundreds of friends whom we never meet or chat or talk to other than commenting on their FB statuses. This does not count as ‘communicating’ anyway. Now, if you have to attend all your Facebook friends’ weddings, then life could become pretty tough.

4. Projects and appraisal

It’s that time of the year when you cannot even think of getting married, let alone attend someone else’s wedding. Appraisal time simply cannot be missed. Maybe, you were eager to attend a particular wedding, but, you certainly cannot compromise when it comes to your career. Same goes with important projects.

5. Food is strictly veg/non-veg

It might sound funny, but it could be a valid reason for many.  If you are a strict vegetarian or vegan and the wedding menu is non-veg or you have food allergies- then you must give attending a second thought. You certainly do not want to trouble your hosts to make alternative arrangements nor can you go to eat away at restaurants leaving the celebrations.

6. You don’t wish to meet certain people

Because you have the information from reliable sources that “certain people” will be attending and the last thing you want to do is bump into them there. Solution? Skip the wedding. If the bride or groom asks you about the reason, it’s okay to tell them about your apprehension. Tell them that you will visit the newlywed couple soon. You can always gift the couple later.

7. They didn’t attend your celebrations

It often happens that some people never join in your celebrations, yet, they expect you to attend theirs. Well, if you fail to meet such expectations, that won’t make you rude or antisocial.

8. Health issues/doctor’s appointment

Health comes first. If you are going through a illness or have got a doctor’s warning about avoiding outside food then you are entitled to skip the wedding.

9. Another wedding

Getting two or more wedding invitations where the date is exactly same is not a new thing. In that case, people usually attend the wedding which is most important to them. The ones they miss out -the hosts’s usually understand their dilemma.
