Karva Chauth is an important North Indian Festival, celebrated by married women to show their love and devotion to their husbands. Traditionally, women fast on the entire day until the moon rises in the evening, after which, they break their fast by taking the first sip of water and the first morsel of food from their husbands’ hands. So if this is your first Karva Chauth after your wedding, here are some tips to help you rock it Bollywood style.
- Have a Mehendi ceremony
Mehendi is a must have for this occasion and you could have it applied on your hands and feet as well. Get a professional Mehendi artist to come over for this purpose. Invite your friends to join in the celebration too. You can also have some filmi style naach-gana-bajana as well.
- Wear your wedding Lehenga
Now is a good time to get that wedding lehenga out and flaunt it again. If not, you could also wear that gorgeous heirloom sari handed down by your mum or mum-in-law. In any case, wear your best attire as the occasion demands it!
- Pay special attention to your hair and makeup
- This is a good time to get a good haircut that suits your face.
- You can even try a new style completely like adding highlights or a gorgeous new color.
- For more drama, you could even get your hair straightened or relaxed. Keratin hair strengthening is a popular treatment that reduces dullness and frizziness of hair.
- If you are styling your hair at home, use a straightening/curling iron. Make sure your hair is well-washed and oil-free before this. You can apply some coconut oil or olive oil and massage your scalp and strands before shampooing the hair. This will give it a nice shine and also make styling easier. Do not forget to use a protective hair serum before using the styling tool(curling iron or straightening iron) to protect the hair from the heat.
- Apply light nude makeup or go for the slightly dramatic look which consists of bold colours. Apply an eye liner; use a brow pencil to fill in the gaps in the eyebrows and dust the eyelids with some light eye-shadow. Blue, gray, light orange and red are trendy colours this season. Use mineral or liquid foundation and apply light rose blush all over the face to give a sun kissed glow to the skin.
- Pamper yourself
This is a good time to indulge in some “me-time”. Go to a salon or a spa for a massage. Or simply relax with a book. Take time off from work if needed. You will be fasting all day, so it is important you relax completely and conserve your energy. Get plenty of rest. This is also the time your body actually detoxes through fasting, so avoid strenuous work and allow the body to do its job.
Some more tips
- If you are trying a new look, do experiment with care. Use products that suit your skin and hair.
- Don’t forget your nails. If you are applying mehendi, make sure you select a nail colour that goes well with the dark maroon hue of the Mehendi. It is best to go for a nude or light nail polish.
- Pamper your feet too. You can do so by soaking them in hot water for a few minutes. Next, brush away the dead skin and dry the feet. Finish off by applying a moisturizer to smoothen the skin.
- Invest in good accessories. You could also use your wedding jewellery or go for artificial matching sets that go well with your dress.
Finally, spend some quality time with your husband. This is a good time to reinstate your wedding vows and further strengthen the bonds of love between you.
