Sometimes the fashion trends seen at the Indian fashion weeks are quite impractical, but Wills India Fashion week (winter autumn 2014-15) collection begs to differ. Since we are always on the lookout for inspirational Indian bridal designers, we tend to scour their creations to bring our brides-to-be the best bridal wear buys that are not only practical but also elegant and unique.
Day 1 of the show saw unique (and inspirational) designs from Raakesh Agarvwal whose creations seemed to be inspired by the uber popular Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. Aptly named the S&M collection, Agarvwal used a lot of leather, metallic chains and sheer fabrics with fun silhouettes in his designs.
Tarun Tahiliani had the svelte and stylish Shilpa Shetty walk in his rich off-shoulder/boat-necked red-purple-maroon lehenga choli. (We love how great Shilpa is looking-she has lost all the post baby weight (did she have any to begin with!?)and has great abs-we also hear she has been working out long hours in the gym and the efforts are all clearly showing here). Actors Harman Baweja and Ayesha Khanna were also there to support the famous designer as he took the bow on stage.
But the highlight of the event was perhaps the collection by Anupama Dayal. She used bold necklines, dramatic colours and interesting jewellery for her models showcasing her quirky creations.
Another mentionable Indian bridal designer in the show was designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh, who also used black, gold, bronze and bold paisley prints in his creations. (These trends seem to be followed by many Indian bridal designers these days). But what set Kiran’s collection apart was the fact that his designs used unique combination of fabrics like lace and sheer along with Grecian cuts and stylish silhouettes.. (Another trend alert from Kiran’s models: golden or bronze sindoor instead of the traditional red)…
No fashion week is complete without designers Shantanu and Nikhil’s designs. These are a hot favourite and many of our brides have worn their creations as can be seen from our real wedding stories. The designer duo used lace, peplum, multiple layered drapes and classic whites in their creations that are fit for the princess brides.
Stay tuned as we bring more Indian bridal designers from top fashion weeks in the country, as and when they happen.
