Indian Groom’s Series: How To Get Help From Your Partner’s Sibling For A Wedding Proposal

By  |

Proposing is no small feat and that’s why we think that it is both cool and nice to get help and the right advice from friends and family members before the actual proposal. If you’d like to make sure that the proposal is nothing short of perfection, then your partner’s immediate family and friends are just the people you need to become acquainted with better.

So, is approaching the sibling you don’t know all that well a good idea in the first place?  Sure, your girl friend may have plenty of funny stories to share with you about her brothers or sisters, but the truth is that siblings often have a very close bond and are very likely to know all the little details about your girl.

Before actually approaching a member of your girlfriend’s family, it’s important to be honest with yourself about whether marriage is the next logical step to the relationship. If you have doubts, take some time to think about what you both want but be 100% sure before bringing the subject up with your girlfriend’s sister or brother. Don’t be the reason for any cracks in family relationships.

Make the first move. You may have met your girlfriend’s older brother once or twice at parties, but that kind of formal socializing is not going to be enough if you need his help in proposing. A great way to break the ice is to find a few common interests and to explore those. Once you are comfortable with the other person, bringing up the topic of marriage and of the proposal becomes that much easier.

Ensure that your girlfriend’s sibling is convinced that your intentions are honest and that you are wholly committed to making the relationship work. Once you gain their trust, writing the entire ‘Will you marry me’ script becomes a piece of cake! However, it’s also essential to show that their opinions matter to you and including their ideas will also make them feel important and involved.

How you eventually propose depends upon you of course, but don’t forget to say a thank you if your proposal goes as planned. Skip expressing your gratitude via a text message or email and send flowers or a personalised thank you gift instead. You could also give them a phone call to let them know how much their support means to you.
