We met

I precisely remember the first time I met Samar (my fiance). I was in Bandra on Carter road for one of our common friend’s birthday. After cutting the cake, he dropped me home and that was it… but since I had some apprehension we never exchanged numbers.

Fast forward to the story of the exchange of phone numbers; even that is an interesting story…We exchanged numbers on our third meeting, and until then, we would meet only with other friends in a group. My friends and I would go to Bandra to hang out and we kept bumping into each other. I am a friendly person by nature so, I give importance to all my friends without discrimination. Now this had its flip side, as I always on calls with my friends and whenever he would call , it would go on waiting. Not that I did not give him any importance- it just wasn’t the ‘kind of importance’ he wanted. Despite that, he was very chivalrous and always took good care of me. As time went by, we became best friends and he realised that if he wouldn’t tell me his feelings, he would forever by ‘friend-zoned’ by me. And so he did… He also came with plenty of expensive gifts, which I refused and he had to take back…Actually, after this happened, I started avoiding him…and we even started having arguments. However, destiny had something else in mind.

During this time, he was struggling as a commercial pilot and was searching for a job. To add to this all, his
dad passed away & it was during this time that I was by his side to support him…And one day, with passion, he exclaimed that he would sit in the cockpit, buy a Mercedes and that I would be at his side when he did so!  Fast forward three more years, I met him at Theobroma, and that was the first time I felt that there was something special about this guy. I was shopping for my shoot (I am a professional stylist) and had several bags in my hands. To top it all, my lace was also untied. When he saw me, he gave me a sweet smile and tied my lace, which made me blush like a 16 year old. Later, he even turned my birthday into a lavish event; taking a boring evening to a fun filled get together in Lonavla with the old gang. It was then that he asked me out again and I took him seriously this time.

Wedding planning process

As I had my friend’s wedding a month prior to mine, and being a fashion designer myself, I was making all of his wedding outfits & trousseau. As a result, i was super late for my own wedding preparations. I had just booked the venue, but everything else was pending. I didn’t think wedding planning was such a big deal. But once I started the prep, it seemed to be a never ending process. I was especially particular about the minutest of details whether it was my outfit, or Samar’s outfits, wedding decor, welcome gifts, wedding & reception entry, bride & groom hangers, bride’s getting ready robe, garlands, and the mehendi etc. So it all got a little stressful, since we had never organised something like this before and we didn’t use a wedding planner. I got lot of ideas from the Internet but most of the other things were my creativity. My wedding was planned entirely by me and my family. I designed the decor with a little help from the Internet & it was executed by my chosen vendors.

My outfits

  • Haldi:- I wore a bright yellow lehenga with a strappy blouse, tassels and no dupatta to add an element of ease and fun. To go with my outfit, i opted for yellow floral jewellery. I went with a minimalistic look complete with a braid that was adorned with yellow flowers.
  • Mehendi:- I wore an emerald green one shoulder crop top blouse with a lehenga. I was quite particular about the minutest of details of my mehendi: I wanted Samar’s and my portraits on both palms and the figures of a girl and boy exchanging garlands to show the wedding as theme along with an airplane, since he is a pilot. I had called the mehendi artist from Surat and he created the designs for me exactly as I wanted.
  • Wedding:– I wanted a very traditional look for my wedding. However, in my heart, I always knew I wanted a typical Sabyasachi look. So I made an all red ensemble lengha for the wedding with intricate gold thread work, it was love at first sight! It looked breathtaking with uncut diamond jewellery (polki) and I paired it with a stunning matha patti. My make up & hair was done by Rohit Singh & Mahesh Patil who created a glamorous look for me exactly as I wanted. My sister had made a ‘Here Comes The Bride’ board to hold when I entered the wedding venue. It was super cute! We had a lovely entrance song ‘Din shagna da’. The ‘Phoolon  ki chaddar’ used for my entry to the mandap was complete with roses, a few kaliras & pearl hangings. I entered with my groomsmen. Samar’s outfit was designed and made by me.
  • Reception:- I wore a golden gown which featured gold embroidery & feathers on the shoulders. I teamed it with a hair wreath for a retro look, and diamond jewellery from The Jewel gallery. . Again for reception Samar’s outfit was designed and made by me.

The Venue

Eskay club & resort is an exceptional venue for an outdoor  wedding. As I mentioned before , I always wanted my wedding to be stylish and different, like getting married on the water or something exotic like that. However, it was difficult fnding such place in Mumbai, Thankfully, Samar took great efforts to find my dream wedding place. Keeping the venue in mind, we kept the decor elegant yet understated. The decor at the wedding venue included pink & white flowers which made the venue look like something out of a dream, the shamiana & the colour co-ordinated chairs provided a picture perfect contrast.
