Real weddings: The Doctors Say I Do-Saloni-Apoorv’s Winter Wedding by Dhanika Choksi Photography

By  |

Ahh!- we love winters and winter weddings. This romantic winter wedding and its underlying love story certainly made us sigh! Saloni chose traditional yellow colours for her main ceremony but for the reception, opted for a dazzling Lehenga in orange-navy and gold embellishments. Photographer Dhanika Choksi was on hand to capture the events of the day.

Here is Saloni and Apoorv’s story in the brides’ words…

Bride-Groom: Saloni and Apoorv.

VenueThe Renaissance Powai , Mumbai

Date: 12th December 2013

Our Photographer: Dhanika Choksi– She is brilliant. I found her through her Facebook page and in the first meeting itself, we had established a great rapport.

The proposal: Apoorv had the whole thing planned with a bit of help from our family and friends. While I was out one day, he invited our friends to arrange for a romantic and surprise  proposal. I came home to this huge banner held by our friends  asking ” Will You Marry Me?”.  Apoorv was down on his knees with our dog Maple besides him, on whose collar was a brilliant diamond ring! I was completely flabbergasted but could not stop smiling throughout :)…

Our Wedding : Our wedding was held over three days. It was a traditional Maharashtrian wedding. The Mehendi was an intimate function held at my parents home on the terrace. We had arranged for it to be decorated with marigolds and Mogra flowers. The next evening was the Sangeet which was at The Renaissance, Powai. This was a dazzling evening , with singers Like Swaroop Khan of Indian idol fame gracing the stage as well as performances by friends and family .

Reception: The Reception was held the same evening, so we had to quickly change and head for the stage where at least 700 guests waited to congratulate us!

My wedding dress and colours: I chose traditional yellow sari for the Maharashtrian ceremony along with some simple yet stunning jewellery. Apoorv chose a  a striking yet simple Sherwani in beige with a maroon dhotti. We were both rather relaxed and even shared a couple of jokes. My arrival was in a traditional Doli, while my handsome groom came in a Baraat with a grand Silver horse drawn carriage.

My favourite part of the day:  Definitely the pheras, which were done in a traditional manner at the Renaissance overlook the scenic Powai lake.

My advice to other brides to be: Take it easy and enjoy every moment of the day!
