We have covered several Maharashtrian weddings here on this blog. These are perhaps the simplest weddings in the country, though many are characterized by lighter moments such as the brother of the bride playfully twisting the groom’s ear to ensure he takes good care of his sister. Couples also feed each other sweets while saying each other names in a creative manner through verses or rhyming poetry. The rest of the ceremony is pretty much similar to North/South Indian weddings with the priest reciting the sacred hymns as he leads the couple into the vows of Grihastha Ashram.

How they met: Theirs was technically a love marriage but with a very brief courtship period. Nimisha & Swapnil were simply two friends in a larger circle of friends for a number of years. Of course now we know that there were some stronger feelings there that were a well kept secret. Then one day he asked her if she’d marry him and she said yes. And the rest as they say, is history! 🙂
