Important Skincare Tips To Protect Your Skin from Humidity

By  |

Monsoon may have withdrawn from most parts of the country, but the humidity persists often till late October. Humidity dampens the air and also our skin, hair and everything else. No matter how many times you wash your hair or face, getting rid off the stickiness seems an impossible task. So, if you too are fed up of trying numerous ways to beat this post-monsoon-humidity, here are some surefire ways that will save your skin from the sticky air. Use these skincare tips and say “goodbye” to that annoying stickiness-

1. Splash water on the face frequently

Whenever the sweat beads start appearing on your face, splash some water on your face and pat it dry with a soft cloth. Do not just wipe it off with a towel but also make sure not to leave the face wet after washing it .

2. Use a mild face wash

A mild face wash is the best aid to get rid off that sticky skin. Better, if it’s an alcohol and soap free one. Use it twice daily. Scrubbing and toning are also a must . Pick an alcohol-free toner for better results.

3. Use wet wipes

Always keep wet wipes in your handbag.  Whenever you feel the stickiness resurfacing and are not in a position to wash your face with water, just clean the sweat off your face using these wipes.

4. Time for a new sunscreen

The regular sunscreen you normally use throughout the year, might itself be oily and sweaty. Naturally it won’t help beat the monsoon humidity. For the humid season, pick a non-greasy or a powdered sunscreen.

5. Light waterproof makeup

Avoid anything heavy on your skin – be it heavy makeup or foundation base. Try light, waterproof, dermatologist-tested makeup, eyeliners, lipsticks and lip-gloss. You can also mix an oil free moisturizer as the base makeup followed with the compact for a sweat-free look.

6. Sterilize your makeup applicator brushes

Regularly sterilize your makeup brushes, applicators etc to prevent sensitive skin from any infections, itching and rashes.

7. Drink plenty of water and non-sugary fluids

While this particular tip is equally important for all the seasons, in the humid months, drink plenty of water and fluid to hydrate your hair and skin.

8. Shampoo tips

Just like your skin, your hair needs special attention too. Do not let the humidity take a toll on your hair- combat it by frequently washing it with mild herbal or SLS free shampoo. Make sure you dry your hair properly before getting out.

9. Add colours to your plate

Just like point no. 7, this one is also applicable for any season. During the hot humid months, eat more fruits and vegetables to keep your immune system alert and active. Make sure to wash fruits and vegetables before consuming.

10. Use light chemical peels

Most dermatologist recommended peels rejuvenate the skin and add a glow to it. Peels and facials also help maintain the pH balance of the skin. ( Do consult your dermatologist before going for a peel if your skin is sensitive to chemical products.)
