Say Hello To The DIY Anti-Bride: Part 3

By  |

What comes to your mind when you say the word ‘DIY Bride’? We bet you’re thinking that the term refers to a yet-to-be bride who is the dominating sort and who is adamant that anything and everything wedding related go her way. On the contrary, a DIY bride is one who is the creative force behind every little detail at the wedding, right from the invitations to the wedding favours. Besides just adding her own touch to different aspects of the wedding, she may also undertake the complete responsibility for it.

For example, DIY anti-brides love to design their own wedding gowns or other Indian wear. So, the perfect anti-bride is the one who has no problems pouring over bridal magazines or wedding websites for inspiration on trending bridal fashion trends and the like. Once, she has more or less decided what she wants, she then spends hours visiting fabric retailers in order to put together her dream creation. She may stitch her gown or lehenga herself or find a tailor to do that instead, but remember that she has the final say on the final look. In order to add a more personal touch to the wedding ensemble, anti-brides have also been known to create a modern lehenga by using an heirloom saree or to embroider a design or two on the wedding piece.

DIY anti bride

So, why would an anti- bride choose to take on additional stress by involving herself in different aspects of the wedding instead of just letting a wedding planner handle the rest? Most DIY anti-brides claim that a wedding day is that one day every little girl waits for and when it does come, everything should be perfect. Instead of going along with another person’s idea of what an ideal wedding should be like, by getting involved, the DIY anti-bride is a step closer to her idea of the perfect wedding. Besides, who can deny that by going DIY, one can cut down on huge costs usually associated with weddings and use that money for a better purpose instead?

We think that all the hard work that a DIY anti-bride and her partner do to make their D-day extra special is likely to translate into a better partnership for life as well. After all, how many opportunities are the two of you likely to get to work as a team together, before your nuptials are over? While an un-traditional anti-bride likes to put her own spin on the perfect wedding, a DIY approach is a more cost-effective one to take. Irrespective of whether you see yourself as one or the other, there’s no doubt that today’s Indian bride is here to redefine weddings, with her modern way of thinking.
