Tips On Making Your DIY Wedding Setup Checklist

By  |

DIY weddings are trending these days, more so because modern couples have a very clear idea as to what kind of a wedding they want and also about the different kind of elements that are a must. Without doubt, DIY weddings are much cheaper to pull off although you can be sure that your stress level while wedding planning will vary depending upon the small or large scale wedding you want to pull off.

While you’re busy doing your wedding shopping and picking up a few more things for the wedding, you need to think about how you’re actually going to set up everything on your own. In the case of a planned wedding, you don’t have to bother about negotiating with vendors and working out every little detail with them. However, in the case of a DIY wedding, setting up and getting prepared for D-Day is by far the most crucial task you will be taking on. Here are a few tips that should be included in your DIY wedding setup checklist:

  • Do not assume that you will be able to pull off your DIY wedding on your own. The more the merrier and by having more people on board to help you, duties can be allocated likewise to each member on your team.
  • Once you have decided on the venue, you need to talk to the managers about how much time you will get to set up the place before the wedding. Most venue managers don’t have any problems with letting guests do the decorations a night before in case the booked hall is available and there are no other functions being held. On the other hand, you are likely to get a maximum of 3- 4 hours before the function to arrange and decorate the venue.

  • Your DIY wedding setup checklist should include renting and setting up of furniture like chairs, tables etc. Most wedding caterers bring their own furniture and if your caterer has confirmed the same with you as well, then you have lesser furniture to worry about.
  • You need to decide on the wedding décor that will be placed at the entrance of the venue, on each table as well as at different points in the venue itself. Your wedding décor could be anything from hanging LED lights to actual flower posies or to a more complicated décor set up. However, do remember that if you plan on going for something more elaborate, you will need to factor in extra time for setting it up too.
  • If you would like to set up a photo booth, a separate cocktail bar, a lavish dessert table or even an entertainment zone for the kids, make sure that your DIY wedding setup checklist includes hiring extra hands for the wedding day or else you may not be able to complete everything on your own.
  • Couples who plan DIY weddings may also opt to bring in their own stock of alcohol or home-made gift favours for the guests. You need to plan well in advance as to who would be bringing these to the venue.

We suggest creating an excel sheet to keep track of your DIY wedding expenses and progress. This way, you and your partner will be on the same page when it comes to wedding planning.
