Wedding Footwear Tips For The Modern Bride

By  |

Many brides make the mistake of thinking that footwear shopping is really easy and that’s why it’s often not given the proper attention it deserves. However, it doesn’t make sense wishing you had taken better care of your feet after standing for long hours especially after the ceremony is over and the guests have gone. You may have heard many a tale about brides who end up with sprains, aches and other painful conditions like bruises which are all a direct result of wearing the wrong wedding footwear. But here’s the good news- by following a few sensible tips, you ensure that you avoid any wedding footwear related incidents later.

Footwear Care is Important

We pay plenty of attention to any baby pimples, acne or other skin conditions on our face but do we really take a second look at any swelling, aches or pains that we may experience on our feet? Even a corn can cause serious discomfort if not treated right. Pamper your feet just as you would the rest of your body and make pedicures as well as foot massages a regular beauty routine. Clean healthy looking feet make any wedding footwear look gorgeous!

Try on your Footwear

Your dress is new and so is your jewellery. That’s why you would rather not wear your wedding footwear around the house or even outdoors for fear that its new look or ‘shine’ may fade away. On the other hand, walking round in your wedding footwear a few times before your wedding day will help the footwear adjust to your feet shape and they will also become easier to wear. Do not wait till your wedding day to actually try out new footwear.

Practice Walking

If you’ve always been a person who has loved her pair of flats but you absolutely must wear a gorgeous pair of heels on your wedding day, then practice walking around in your wedding footwear at least two weeks before the wedding. Walking around in a pair of heels gracefully takes plenty of practice and even if you are wearing shoes or sandals with just one extra inch of added heels (in comparison to what you normally wear), it’s worth practicing your bridal walk every day. Tripping while walking, slipping and even falling on your partner while holding his hand are every bride’s nightmare but they do happen for real.

Consider the Weather

Are you planning to have an outdoor wedding or an indoor one? Are you sure that a bright sunny day ahead awaits you or is there a chance of rain? The kind of wedding footwear you choose should be worn keeping the weather in mind or else your footwear will not last at all. Do you really want to be struggling in heels in slushy mud even if they are a designer pair even though you knew yours was going to be a garden wedding? Avoid heels if yours is an outdoor event and stick to flats or sandals so that chances of tripping are minimised. We suggest giving leather wedding footwear a miss on a rainy day too.
