Weddings these days are drawing plenty of inspiration from the latest hot trends irrespective of religion or community. Let’s take a look at a few more interesting ideas that can be seen in modern day Christian weddings:

Going ‘viral’ is in: Earlier, it was considered bad luck if the parents of the groom or bride had the habit of telling too many people that a wedding was on the cards. This was because of a popular superstition in which it was believed that anybody’s bad eye or curse was strong enough to put an end to a wedding alliance even before the actual ceremony had taken place. Today’s modern Christian couple however is more than happy to even create a wedding teaser (and uploading it on popular social networks) to let friends and family know that a wedding will take place and have no hesitation in setting aside a budget for including a candid wedding photographer or for shooting a post wedding candid video. The idea is to create a memory that can be looked at and remembered fondly when the couple enter their golden years. Of course, in most cases it is the suggestions of the wedding planner that is given top priority.

Mix of Cuisines: In Kerala, a Christian wedding was considered incomplete without a chicken or mutton biriyani followed by gulab jamun with ice-cream being served. Keeping the menu simple and serving just one or two varieties of biriyani ensured that all the guests had their fill and that everybody got to eat the same food. Today however, deciding the wedding menu itself often seems like a herculean task because the traditional Christian menu has completely made way for other Indian and International cuisines. Instead of going with just one type of cuisine, modern day Christian couples prefer to have a mixed menu so that the food served is unique and caters to as many food preferences as possible. In many weddings, it is not unusual to find big halls being hired just for displaying the dishes!

Saying ‘Thank You’ Matters: Just as in weddings conducted abroad, today’s Christian couple is eager to show their appreciation to guests who have attended the wedding in person. The cost involved does not matter because it is the uniqueness of the gift that really counts. Couples often opt for customized presents that feature their images, wedding date, signature or any other detail on the gift item itself. Gourmet chocolates, exclusive dessert jars, candles, gift kits for him and her or other toiletry items are all great gifting ideas and appear to be quite popular too.
