Leela Palace New Delhi Wedding

I am an entrepreneur. I have done my MBA from IIM Indore and pursued my Masters in Entrepreneurship from UC Berkeley. After my wedding, I have joined my husband who is an industrialist in Bhopal. We majorly deal with electrical and solar equipment. Since childhood, I have been fascinated with the concept of marriage and weddings. Till the D-day actually arrived, I wasn’t able to believe that I am getting married. Even, today sometimes I don’t feel like I am somebody’s wife. I think that’s the best thing about Aryan, my husband, he has always treated me as a friend. We met through our parents and luckily they gave us enough time to understand and know each other. And, until very late Aryan and I never asked each other questions that a typical arranged marriage would comprise of. We just went with the flow and everything kept settling in, falling in the right place.

I was very enthusiastic about the whole wedding thing and Aryan left almost all the decisions on me (mixed feeling about that one!) My brother helped me a lot to plan and implement the wedding (as he should and because he’s younger !)

Wedding Functions

Engagement

We got engaged in mega ballroom style at The Leela Palace, New Delhi. The theme of the room was also created in the same way, with chandeliers, bouquets of roses, dance floor, a life-size hashtag, and soulful live music. I wore a beautiful red gown by Neeta Lulla, with diamond jewelry and a dazzling tiara, which completed my look. Aryan wore a red Tuxedo, which he picked from Giorgio Armani to go with the red and golden theme of the room. We exchanged rings, danced like crazy and everyone had a gala time.

Mehendi

For Mehendi, I always wanted to wear a multi-colored lehenga with a lot of stripes, each of a different color. I got my perfect match with a designer, called Gazal Gupta in Delhi and customized it into velvet wear. I got big tassels with our names written on them and paired it with juttis from Rohan Arora, saying ‘Pataka Dulhan.’ The color theme of the function was largely Tiffany blue with a tint of pink floral. Everyone in the hall waved at me with color bombs, as I walked down holding my dad’s hand, and the song ‘Dilbaro’ (my absolute favorite!) was played in the background.

Godh Bharai

After a lot of contemplation, I decided on a pastel orange saree from Rabani and Rakha. I kept the look very simple and natural and just left my hair as they are. It is said simplicity works the best and I wanted to be just myself for at least one occasion (a bride needs that, duh!). A lot of my friends said I looked the best in that attire. Well, I have amazing friends!

Bridesmaid Get Together

It’s said that a bride cannot do it, without her girls. So, a few months before the wedding, I gifted all my girls with an outfit and a bridesmaid hamper proposing to them to be a part of my brigade for the wedding. On the wedding day, all of them dressed up in similar pink sarees and I wore a red one. We cut a cake, clicked pictures and enjoyed the meal together. I got my perfect rom-com girly moment captured there forever!

Sangeet

The theme of the Sangeet was eleven heavens. Every performance took place with a different background and feel, such as Paris, Greece, Rome, India, Switzerland and many more. The theme was created in a way that the whole family keeps searching for the girl in all the countries but finally, the groom finds her in India. I chose an Indo western wear from Dolly J, which was baby pink in color and Aryan paired it with a white Tuxedo and a bow. This was one event, I actually enjoyed the most. It was so nice to see everyone dancing for you and making your day special.

Wedding

The wedding was done in a full royal theme. The varmala was done in a way that depicted gods getting married, Krishna and Radha (again my favorite love story). I always loved Tarun Tahiliani’s work because it’s very delicate and beautiful. I picked my wedding lehenga from him. I wore an elaborate matha patti, layered necklaces, and long jhumkas. I even wore baju band and hath fools in both my hands, with a lot of bangles. My make up artist recommended that I go with bold red lipstick to enhance my look, which looked really lovely with my lehenga.

Advice for other brides to be

weddingsOnline is a great platform if you are getting married. I love their Instagram page so a lot of ideas did crop up to me for my wedding from there. I made sure that I picked up all designer wear and outfits, which have very delicate work as I am not a big fan of scattered or big patches on the outfit. Similarly, for my jewellery and accessories. My mother was there for me all the time and a lot of credit goes to her for my looks and how everything turned out. Mom is actually a girl’s best friend. Girls: pick your wedding photographer smartly; someone who knows you and is ready to give a personal touch. The biggest piece of advice I can give is that no matter how much you plan, things will go wrong and they should (for interesting stories!) but the important thing is to remember to be calm and see your wedding as a celebration of two families coming together above all.
