Islamic culture has greatly influenced the men’s wedding wear in India. Sherwanis and Achkans have been handed down to us after numerous influences from Turkish and Mughal motifs. Even Bollywood movies like Jodhaa Akhbar have influenced these styles and helped bring back the royal Islamic men’s wear into our weddings. The Nehru Bandhgala(closed necks suit) is also an innately luxurious style that can help the groom exhibit elegance and sophistication.

Depending on the theme and colors of one’s wedding; a groom can have a suit customized out of a particular material, style, color and embellishments. The season in which your wedding is being held will also be an important deciding factor.

Here are some ideas for men’s wedding wear.

Western wear: Plain shirt with an overcoat that may be white, grey or cream. Your suit’s material could be Tweed, Polyester or Merino Wool. Summer weddings naturally call for lightweight fabrics. The single and double breasted jackets with 2 or 4 buttons are no longer the only choices and you can even opt for double breasted jackets having 3, 6 or 8 buttons.  The latter are definitely recommended for taller grooms. You can button up or leave them open, as desired.

Trousers-Parallel cut, with deep pleats and high waists are fashionable today. Pair them with a belt in either blue or black. Ensure that the trousers fit snugly and comfortably.

Indian wear– Most Indian weddings have several occasions, so you can choose Sherwani or Achkan for the wedding, a Chudidar Kurta(with or without jacket) for the Sangeet and a stylish Bandhgala Achkan for the reception. Latest color choices in reception attire are shades of beige, deep olive, grey, blue etc.
