Real Indian Wedding: When A Wedding Photographer Ties the Knot… (by Nostalgia Photography)

By  |

We are completely smitten by this real Indian wedding, not only because of its fascinating color scheme (and not to mention the extremely cute couple tying the knot!) but also because we have featured the bride before as  a wedding photographer in our real Indian wedding series. Pooja, our bride today,  is the owner and co-founder of Nostalgia Photography and needless to say, we are very very excited to share this real Indian wedding  story with you. Read on for the details:

Bride and groom: Pooja Gopalani ( wedding photographer/co-owner of Nostalgia Photography) and Arpit, a Surgeon.

Love or Arranged match: Though I had never expected it, Love! 🙂

Our Story: While Arpit was pursuing his MBBS in Mumbai, we met through a common friend, about 8 years ago. It was love at first sight for him. Our common friend started dropping a few hints about him and I didn’t know what to do at that time. Over time, we kept meeting and I got to know him a little better. Soon he became my best friend – someone I could trust in more than myself. I realised that I couldn’t think of anyone else and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I was completely in love 🙂

While he graduated in Medicine from Mumbai, our parents met. Later, he moved on to Delhi and Nagpur and back to Delhi, so we were in a long distance relationship. Soon, after completion of his post graduation in Surgery, we decided to get married.

Nostalgia Photography is my own baby. Seema and I shared the vision of taking wedding photographs to create a unique memory of emotions and love. So, we started doing that for couples-to-be and their family members all the while attempting to make a difference in what we do. At Nostalgia, we believe that what makes us stand out from the crowd is our attention to details. A wedding in modern times isn’t just about the rituals. It is a mammoth effort by the families and is planned down to the tiniest detail.  Naturally, Nostalgia was my choice for photographing my own wedding!

The Wedding outfit – It had to be a lehenga and I was kind of sure that I wanted something other than red. In fact: I even knew what I wanted but wasn’t sure if I’d be able to find it. So I scouted markets all over Delhi and Mumbai, right from Chandni Chowk to the top bridal designers. My mom, Namrata Gopalani, has been designing outfits for many years and was already making my trousseau when I decided that I wanted her to make my Lehenga as well. We spent hours discussing the shades, fabrics, embroidery, cuts, and other details and I totally loved what she created for me.

My wedding day- The Wedding was set to be on 22nd Feb, 2014  at The Grand, New Delhi.

The day went by super fast, as if time was flying!  Right from the rituals in the morning, to getting ready, the Jay maala, to the Bidaai- everything just went by in a blur. But I must add here that every bride must take the time to let the feeling sink in and thoroughly enjoy her W-Day! Overall, it was  a beautiful experience :).

Advice to other would-be brides: Know that the wedding is a celebration of you and your partner.  For me, that is the most important feeling that every bride must remember over and over on her wedding day.
