weddingsonline caught up with award winning makeup artist Shwetha Raju recently. In between her makeup sessions, this talented professional spoke passionately about her experiences in the industry and the latest, in-demand trends.
1) How long have you been in this field? What got you started in hair and makeup?
It will be nearly 6 and a half years now since I started. I was always passionate about makeup and used to love styling my friends and family members. I am also a painter so creativity comes naturally to me. There was no doubt that I wanted to excel in this field.
2) What do you love most about wedding makeup?
Seeing the final look and the happiness on the bride’s face! I love keeping my brides natural and flawless. Having specialized in various makeup techniques, I know what suits each individual. The results are, hence, very natural and yet the bride looks radiant. Seeing that final look and the look of gratitude on the client’s face is, to me, hugely satisfying.
3) What products do you use? What are your packages like? Do you offer a bridal trial makeup as well?
I use MAC, Makeup Forver,Anastasia, and Temptu Airbrush. We offer a couple of packages: the Basic Package and Air Brush package. Yes, we do offer a trial session as well. Some clients book first and then we offer them a free trial. But there are also clients who want to have a trial first and book later. Accordingly,we deduct the trial session amount from the final invoice. SO basically, the trial is FREE.
4) Could you walk us through the process of a bridal consultation?
During the trial consultation, I apply the products on half of the face and show the client the Before-After difference. We take into account their vision for the day and also suggest some of our own tips. Based on the client’s skin type and issues, we suggest a home care regime as well.
5) What sets you apart from other MUAs?
Brides come to me because they have heard good things about my work. My USP lies in keeping each bride very natural. I use colours closest to her skin tone instead of too bright or unnatural colours. That is what most brides love these days.
6) How do you deal with adamant brides who are overly trend conscious?
We always give our clients and their vision the highest priority. However, we also gently suggest what would and would not look good. Most clients eventually agree with these suggestions.
7) Finally, any advice for brides to be as far as their hair and makeup are concerned?
Please try to be very clear about what you want. Accordingly, select your bridal makeup artist. If you do not have a vision, ask your stylist to show you some good photos. You can also get inspiration online these days. This will make your stylists’ job a lot easier.
