In our Supplier Spotlight feature this month, we talked to Sheetal Saiha of Saiha Makeup Studio and got to hear about what makes her different, her expectations on the job and how she deals with challenges.
1. When and how did you start in this field?
I started working as a Makeup Artist nearly 8 years ago. I studied skin aesthetics and makeup for TV and films with Rita and Farida in Andheri. After that, I worked in the US as a makeup artist for a few years. Currently, I do a lot of TV commercial and series as well as fashion shoots for top brands and salons.
2. What sets you apart from other makeup artists? What is your USP?
My clients tell me I’m very patient. I like to know and form a connection with each of my brides and I talk to them myself rather than have my team connect with them. Makeup is not a job for me-it is a passion. When I see my brides during trials, I can imagine her complete look that will be flattering and enhance her bridal beauty. Having worked with a variety of faces in multimedia it has made it easier to do this.
3. What products do you use?
I believe in Cruelty free Beauty. The strongest brands in the market today are cruelty free and many times even vegan with excellent results. Huda, Anastasia, Kiko, Cat Von D, Urban Decay, NYX are some of the best cruelty free products in my vanity. I procure 99% of the stuff I use from the US and Canada.
4. What are the typical challenges you face when it comes to dealing with Indian brides?
An unsure client is a bit of a challenge. When the bride is not sure what look she wants but is also not sure of the suggestion made by her artist, it can be a bit of confusion and cause delays. My suggestion is trust us; we are here to create the best look in the given budget.
5. What trends can we expect to see in 2019 weddings?
2018 was all about natural makeup, soft shadows, smoky eyes and glitter. Deepika-Ranveer wedding might change all that. A lot of trends we expect to see in the early half of 2019 will be inspired by this big Bollywood celebrity wedding.
6. Do you offer bridal makeup trials? If so, are they charged? How much does a typical bridal package cost?
Yes, I do offer paid makeup trials starting from 1000 INR depending on individual needs. My bridal packages start from 20,000 INR onwards.
7. Finally, any advice for the brides-to-be as far as their skin and hair care home regimen is concerned?
At least 6-8 months before the wedding, please see a dermatologist. Only a skin doctor can address issues like acne, dryness, white spots etc. Do not try anything new and never try to correct a skin condition on your own. Take good care of your health-eat nutritious food, exercise and sleep well. That is very important to help you look gorgeous on the Big Day!
