tips for a memorable Valentine's Day 2020

For couples in love, every day is Valentine’s Day and for some who may be recently engaged, this day can be extra special. Here are some cool ideas for a memorable Valentine’s Day.

Valentines day food ideas (recipe included)

Heart-shaped cakes and cookies, cherry tomatoes or strawberries cut in halves and joined together with toothpicks to resemble tiny hearts, jam-filled sandwiches cut in heart shape and other fun finger foods are just a few ideas to set the mood for the day. Keep white and red as the theme of the day. For breakfast, you can make pancakes or idlis in the shape of a heart. Get creative with the fruit and vegetable platters and for lunch, go for a pizza, with toppings arranged in the shape of a heart. Also, buy a huge packet of Hershey’s kisses or other heart-shaped chocolates and candy and place it in bowls readily available everywhere. Drinks could range from champagne, wine, water or juices served in appropriate glasses.

Here is an easy recipe for chocolate covered strawberries:

Chocolate Strawberry hearts

  • 5 oz chocolate (use white chocolate or bittersweet dark chocolate)
  • 1 box of strawberries

In a double boiler, melt the chocolate. Stir briskly to make it creamy. Hold the berries by their stem and dip into the melted chocolate. You can cover the entire berry or just ¾  of the fruit. Place the berry stem-side down on a sheet covered with butter paper. Once all berries are done, place them in the refrigerator and chill until set.

Décor

Valentines day 2017 ideas

Roses, of course, or you can decorate the place with red seasonal flowers, flower petals and teddy bears. Buy or make Valentine cards and place them all around the room. Bring out the Christmas or Diwali lights and decorate the house with them. Candlelight is, of course, a popular symbol of romance – stock up on as many tea lights and candles as you can and place them all around the house. You will be surprised how beautiful your home looks with these simple ideas. Here are some more:

  • Tie red ribbons all over your indoor houseplants
  • Place red candles or tea lights on all surfaces
  • Balloons- are always a fantastic way to say “I love you”.
  • Decorate the bedroom with red curtains and satin or silk red sheets and heart-shaped pillows.
  • Burn incense sticks or diffuse aromatherapy oils in the rooms- rose, frankincense, lavender and/or rosemary oils work best.
  • Place heart-shaped soaps in the bathroom/sink.
  • Use red potpourri
  • Red garlands or confetti works well.
  • Stick cutout hearts on the walls
  • Posters of romantic quotes, couples, kisses, flowers, etc are some other décor ideas.
  • Lay a rose on the pillows.

Set the mood with music games and notes

Play romantic music that your partner loves. Leave tiny notes describing what you like in each other mentioning qualities you love and admire in her/him. Place the notes where s/he is least expecting them to be: in the shoes, in the refrigerator and so on. Be creative! You can also organize a scavenger hunt where s/he searches for Valentines around the house.

Personal style

  • Get your hair cut in a new style
  • Wear sexy clothes which your partner loves- or especially buy some to surprise her/him.

You need not spend a huge amount on Valentine’s Day. Simply go out for a romantic dinner or drive or recreate a favorite day of yours in the past. Whatever you do, do not leave your plans for the last minute as nothing costs more than trying to do everything at the last minute. With careful planning, there is no reason why you cannot have a memorable and romantic Valentine’s Day.
