New Christian Wedding Trends- Part 1

By  |

With so many wedding trends doing the rounds all over the country, it’s no surprise that the Christian community too is willing to experiment and give traditional ceremonies a modern twist. To fully appreciate just how much weddings have changed for Christian newlywed couples, one needs to understand how their weddings used to be conducted earlier.

The number of guests who actually turn up to attend the wedding and the reception as well is without doubt of huge importance to both families concerned. There is an engagement that is conducted a few months or a few weeks in advance and in some cases just a day before the wedding. The engagement is hosted by the bride’s family. The wedding is traditionally held at the groom’s ancestral place and at the church where his family attends weekly mass. The reception meal (usually lunch) that follows is hosted by the groom and his family. In most communities, Christian wedding ceremonies are a small family & friends affair although going by the new Christian wedding trends that can be seen today, one could say that today’s modern day Christian couples want their version of the big fat Indian wedding too, without severing ties with traditions. Let’s take a look at the new Christian wedding trends here:

Designer Invitation Cards: Earlier the wedding invitation cards could be held in one hand comfortably and were printed on one side with the preferred colours being a gold coloured font on cream or ivory paper. Today, there’s a lot more creativity and thought that goes into the design of a wedding invitation card. So, designs like little scrolls rolled up in bejewelled boxes, designer cards that have been decorated with beads or even handcrafted wedding invitations made using scented paper are all in vogue. In fact, it is also not unusual for wedding invitations to be accompanied with a small box of gourmet chocolates, traditional mithai or flowers. To add more flamboyance to the whole ceremony of inviting guests personally, such cards are first hand-delivered by an agency after which the respective families visit the guest’s house in person.

Say Hello to the Wedding Planner: There was never a need for a wedding planner earlier as deviating from traditional ceremonies was simply unthinkable. Couples in the yesteryears often did not give much thought to what was in store for them on the wedding day, mostly because the respective families took care of every little detail from the wedding decor to the catering. Today’s modern day Christian couples have a clear idea about how they want their ceremony to be and do not have any problems keeping aside a wedding budget for the same either. However the idea isn’t to flaunt or to have a wedding that’s bigger than what the neighbour had last week but to have a wedding that is remembered and which stands out for key aspects. And who better to highlight such details than an experienced wedding planner by their side?

We’ll be back with more information on the latest Christian wedding trends in our society today. Stay tuned.
