4 Facts Nobody Tells You About Wedding Planning

By  |

How prepared can a bride really be for her big day? Experience tells us that although brides have a fairly good view about what to expect on their wedding day, there are still those few little things that you probably weren’t warned about. Here is our top list of 4 things that are likely to happen while you are in the midst of wedding planning and which you probably haven’t been warned about:

DIY weddings are hard work- You can start ten months before the wedding or even just three, but let’s face it- a DIY wedding planning is seriously hard work. You are your own wedding planner and that means the onus is on you and your group to pull off a great wedding. Sure your costs will be down but there will be a 100 little factors that need to be looked at in detail by you and which are all detrimental to the wedding on the whole. So, we suggest trying not to be a superwoman and asking for help as and when needed.

You may not get time with the groom- The movies have an entirely different take on weddings. Quite often you have the bride and groom being at the centre of all the attention and they gaze lovingly into each other’s eyes as the romantic music plays on cue. Real weddings happen in a completely different manner. Since Indian weddings are a community affair and rarely an intimate one, you can expect plenty of guests to make conversation with you all through the day. There is likely to be hardly any time to spend with your groom in private. If personal time matters that much to you, try to make time for each other a day before the wedding or just after the ceremony is over.

Your groom may not be that interested in the wedding planning- Here’s a popular bone of contention that most couples who are about to walk down the aisle share- the groom is least interested in the wedding. Actually, it’s not that he isn’t interested in the details but it’s just that a wedding has always traditionally been considered a woman’s domain and not a man’s. If you want his participation in the wedding planning, then you need to allocate certain tasks to him. Making the arrangements for the music, talking to the DJ about a playlist and even deciding on which cocktails to serve are a few tasks he wouldn’t mind taking on at all.

Unexpected Emergencies could happen- You’ve planned for everything but at the last minute, the weather plays truant and its pouring. Your garden themed wedding is suddenly not the focus anymore at all! Or your favourite aunt has suddenly called up to tell you that she can’t make it to your important day because she has another emergency on her hands. Every bride loves the perfect wedding but sometimes you have to account for certain factors that are not in your control. The same goes for hidden wedding expenses too. You could be presented with a vendor bill that is much higher than what you budgeted for. Planning for such unforeseen events will go a long way in making your wedding a success.
