Is a hair and make-up professional a must?

Unless you are very confident about pulling off a glam look entirely on your own or with the help of family members, we suggest going with a professional for every ceremony. If the thought of paying high service fees is what is making you reconsider, then factor in the cost of a professional in your wedding budget first. Alternatively, visiting a few well-known beauty stylists in your area in person and asking them to show you their bridal portfolio is a good way of making an informed decision. If you have other ceremonies planned, try negotiating a good bridal package. Hiring a professional on your big day helps you look your best all through the day.

Guests don’t really have the habit of RSVP’ing before the wedding. How do I get them to do so?

Confirming one’s attendance at a wedding beforehand is a formal courtesy that is still catching up in India although this practice is quite common in other parts of the world. If you really want to know how many guests are likely to turn up at your wedding and for other ceremonies so that you can give your caterer an accurate count, then it’s advisable to meet up with or call each guest in person to confirm their attendance. No, you do not have to do that task, instead ask one of your family members to do it on your behalf.

Do I really have to diet and live on salads before my wedding to look lean?

Dieting and starving yourself a few days before your wedding in order to look toned and slim is not recommended at all. When you do not give your body fuel to convert into energy, it begins to use up muscle instead. So instead of looking radiant on your D-Day, you’re likely to look tired, sleepy, lethargic and weak. If you need to lose weight, then follow a good bridal exercise regime and dieting a few months before your wedding day. This helps your body adjust to a new routine as well and you’ll get fantastic results in just a few weeks.

Is it alright for me to really indulge in the food and drinks (if any) on my wedding day?

Well, with all that smiling and posing, you’re definitely bound to feel hungry and although brides usually aren’t caught indulging to their heart’s content when it comes to the food, there’s no reason why you cannot help yourself to an extra helping if you feel like it. On the other hand, we would recommend being cautious with over indulging on the cocktails served as it could prove to be disastrous and embarrassing if you can’t hold down your drink. The last thing you would want is for your new family to see an entirely different side of you, on such an auspicious day. One drink is fine but we suggest avoiding mixing your drinks and letting your hair down after the main ceremony is over.
