Celebrity Makeup artist and hair designer Ruhee M Bindra took some time out of her busy schedule to speak to our brides on the latest trends in makeup and bridal beauty.Ruhee started working in the fashion industry eight years ago. During her modelling stint, she learned a great deal about makeup and would also perform her own styling at the modelling shoots. She has been nominated for the IIFA awards for designing makeup and hair for films like Chak De and Rocket Singh Salesman Of the Year.
In a tete-a-tete with weddingsonline India, Ruhee talks about her journey in this field and also about how bridal makeup has changed over the past decade…
“I started working in the fashion industry nearly 8 years ago ,and always had a flair for make up and hair styling. Being a model I was also fascinated with bright neon colours , high fashion and make up; I used to do my own make up at shoots and was very innovative and unique compared to others”.
On professional training
I haven’t assisted any make up artist nor did I undergo any professional training; I used to style hair and perform makeup for my cousins,friends and my aunts since early childhood. They would all be amazed with my creativity as I would create buns and updo’s for them very neatly and apply lipstick and eye shadow perfectly !
One her style of working
All make up artist have their own style of working,I was always a boss of my own work and like to do things on my terms and conditions. Needless to say I am a thorough professional and never compromise on the quality of work. I also believe in having a very positive attitude towards my job and am dedicated as well as a perfectionist .I monitor my work and mever leave until the actor/client is fully satisfied.I never leave work to my assistants, but give my actors/clients my complete attention.
On offering trial bridal makeup and her bridal packages and policies
I do not offer trials for my brides,my brides come to me via word of mouth and through references . So they trust me so much that none of them has ever asked me for trial, they just book me due to this trust in me and my work. My bridal packages are very reasonable and economical so that all my brides can afford me and I like to accommodate all as they come with a lot of hope to be styled by me. Naturally, I make sure they are very happy and satisfied with my work and my packages. My brides usually book me from a year to 6 months in advance,sometimes 3 months in advance: a bride can call me and take a chance to see if I’m free on those particular dates then I accommodate them . My cancellation policy is that once the advance is paid it can’t be returned. If I commit I fulfill it no matter how many brides I have on one day, I plan my schedule accordingly and make sure everybody is styled well and on time . And ofcourse I stay back for touch ups,as they book me for everything,so I am with them every step of the way!

I excel in all genres of celebrity make up and hair designing from high fashion,beauty dewy make up for TV commercials for cosmetic brands, glam make up,reality shows,events,talk shows,music videos and of course bridal make up and hair.
On latest Bridal Makeup trends
The trends in bridal make up are subtle shimmery gold,bronze,copper,greyish silver eyes with winged eyeliner,thick lashes, glowing and shiny cheeks with bright color lip stains and of course smokey eyes in different metallic colours like bronze,gold,silver,smokey grey,brown,pink,smokey black and glossy nude lip tints. Cosmetic brands like Benefit,Bobbi Brown,Mac,Sheisedo,Urban Decay,Deborah,Sephora,Bourjois,Inglott,L’oreal and Lakme are my favourites and also very popular.
On how bridal makeup has changed today
Indian bridal makeup has massively changed today: brides want to look as glamorous as an actor or a model and come up with references from the Internet that would help them look like Kareena and other top stars! Brides today also come up with demands for a particular look from a film , TV or reality show.
On Air brush makeup
Air brush make up has become very popular today especially for beauty commercials as well as for modern brides as it gives a flawless porcelain doll-like finish. Such high definition make up is good to conceal open pores,dark circles,uneven skin tone,pigment and dark patches and camouflages all flaws of every type of skin .
